What is Design-Build?
Design-Build is the seamless integration of planning, design, and construction into one streamlined process. For smaller projects, such as patios, a formal design may not be necessary. But for larger, more complex projects, we always begin with a detailed design to ensure clarity, efficiency, and exceptional results.
At Groundhog Landscaping, our design services are offered exclusively as part of a design-build project, allowing us to focus on bringing your vision to life from concept through completion.
Our Design-Build Process
Our design-build process follows a thoughtful seven-step approach — the first five of which are completed before any construction begins. Below is a brief overview of each step:
1. Discovery Call
When you call about a design-build project, our office coordinator will talk with you about scheduling, budget, and goals. If you feel that Groundhog is a good fit, they will schedule a meeting with our Estimator.
2. On-Site Consultation
Moving forward, our Chief Estimator will meet with you on-site to discuss more details about the scope, review site requirements and discuss some preliminary numbers for your project. At this point, we will determine if a landscape design is needed and give you a price to do that.
3. Landscape Design
Not all projects require this step, but the landscape plan is a necessary part of making sure everyone is on the same page for larger projects with multiple components. Both our Landscape Designer and Estimator will meet with you to discuss material preferences and how the space will be used.
4. Plan Revisions
Once the preliminary plan is drawn up and approved, a proposal will be provided of what the project will cost. At this stage, you will be able to make substitutions, add or remove components, or create phase-in strategy as your budget allows.
5. Contract
After the plan revisions have been made, a final contract with all specifications will be submitted to you for your signature and deposit. At this point, the Project Manager will take over, get the required permits (if needed) and schedule your project.
6. Construction
Our Project Manager is the point-of-contact between you and the Site Foreman. He oversees the process to ensure that your expectations are being met and the project stays on schedule and within budget.
7. Final Walk-through
When the construction is finished, the Project Manager will walk through the site with you to answer your questions and provide you with instructions on how to care for your new landscape investment.
