Hardscaping Services

Hardscaping – once an obscure term only used by landscape contractors – has now become a household name. The hardscape, of course, is that part of a landscaping project that uses non-living elements to provide structure and function. It is so broad in scope that landscape companies often have their own hardscaping division – and in some cases, the entire landscape company performs strictly hardscaping services.

Fortunately, at Groundhog Landscaping, we are very familiar with hardscapes, having integrated them in our landscape projects for over 30 years. Our hardscaping crews – whether installing pavers, block, or natural stone – employ the latest tools and techniques to create hardscape structures that will stand the test of time.

Retaining Wall Installation

Retaining walls are an important part of hardscaping in the New Hampshire Lakes Region because they create usable space on a slope for patios, gathering areas, and navigating a safe path to the shoreline. Our hardscaping crew will install segmented concrete block or natural stone retaining walls according to specific engineering requirements as dictated by the site conditions.

Walkway and Patio Installation

Walkways and pathways provide access to gathering places like patio areas and pools. Walkway and patio installation is not simply functional – it provides an aesthetic value as well. With such a wide variety of concrete paver colors and styles available, we are able to seamlessly integrate these outdoor living areas with your home.

Our concrete pavers are installed on a free-draining, permeable base with a choice of permeable or non-permeable pavers.

Natural stone flagging and granite steps are the perfect materials to integrate a New Hampshire Lakes Region property with the native environment. At Groundhog Landscaping, we have a crew of talented stonemasons for this very purpose.

Landscape Features

While walkways, garden paths, patios, and pool decks provide the structural elements for access and destination points, there is one more component of the hardscaping phase: Landscape Features.

Landscape features are any non-living components that provide aesthetic appeal, safety, privacy or convenience. Some examples include waterfalls, fire pits or fireplaces, pergolas, and landscape lighting.

These components should be considered during the planning and design phase because they are built into the hardscape structure. Once your walls, patios, and granite stairs are installed it can be very difficult integrate these later.

Does this seem overwhelming? Not to worry – we have all of these conversations with you well in advance before we break ground. Our Landscape Designer or Estimator will work with you, making recommendations that help you to decide on the best options for your lifestyle and your budget.
