Landscaping Services

Our landscaping services – also known as “softscape” – are the finishing touches that we put on the project after the hardscaping phase is completed. Landscaping elements are comprised of any type of living plant material such as trees, shrubs, perennials, and turf grass.

Similar to hardscaping, landscape planting choices can be overwhelming; this is why we plan this all out ahead of time during the design phase of the project. Our Landscape Designer will make recommendations. Some clients love to be involved in the selection of plant material; others prefer to just have us do it.

Landscape Plantings: Where Do You Start?

There is a deliberate method that we use when we approach landscape plantings. This process helps to narrow the field of options while ensuring a successful landscape that our clients will love.

  • Location. In small spaces we will often use dwarf plant material that will not overgrow the space. Privacy screening on the other hand requires larger, fast-growing plants.
  • Sunlight and solar orientation. Full sun plants will not thrive in shade; however, plants that prefer partial sun will also perform well in full sun.
  • Colors and Textures. Finally, we will choose from a palette of colors and textures to create an ambience that is compatible with our client’s personality and lifestyle.

For example, some clients prefer a lot of color. We will design perennial beds that bloom throughout the season.

If low maintenance is a priority, we will use slower-growing plants and carefree landscape grasses that fill the space efficiently.

Don’t want to wait for plants to grow? We have the capability of installing full-grown trees that provide instant privacy or shade.

Native Landscape Plants for the New Hampshire Lakes Region

Our design team will use plant material that is native to the New Hampshire Lakes region wherever possible. Native plant species blend into the natural landscape, tend to be more pest-resistant, and generally thrive better.

This is especially important in shoreline buffer situations where soil retention is an issue. Native vegetation helps to transition the woodland surroundings and shoreline with the built environment of a lakefront home.

Finding Just the Right Plant for You

At Groundhog Landscaping, plant availability is never a problem. We source our plant material from three different nurseries to ensure we can get the exact plant in the exact size that we have specified in the landscape plan.

As the old saying goes: “The best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago. The second-best time is today.” Whether you have a new construction site or an existing property that needs new life – don’t wait – schedule a consultation today to begin the transformation of your landscape!
